Running in the cold
Posted January 04th 2016 by The 2016 Running Awards
As tempting as it can be to hibernate on these cold winter days, there is nothing more rewarding, mentally and physically, than getting outside and raising your heart rate.

It’s that time of year again, the John Lewis’ advert, Christmas trees and chocolate Advent Calendars sold in time to go off by Christmas...
We are jumping on the band wagon, but in a different way. We would like everyone to help out their fellow runner; by voting on the best pair of headphones or book to give to your favourite runner (or yourself) this year. Our community’s help will mean we can publish the definitive list in time for Christmas. Please help us with your free nomination or vote here, it takes 2 minutes. Then check out the results on 10th December in time for Christmas!
Two of the bestselling gifts for runners’ last year were of course books and headphones, with ‘park run - much more than just a run in the park’ and the Yurbuds Inspire Pro Earbuds topping our runners’ votes. I would personally recommend looking at the book list, as it is rather diverse! Every type of runner from 5K to Endurance via Triathlon has an option here, with books on running history, culture, injury prevention and other running topics as well.
Obviously, initiatives such as the NHS Couch to 5K, GoodGym and ThisGirlCanRun were instrumental in supporting and promoting running in 2016. We are looking at seeing which ones can make as much of a difference for 2017. Of our nominees we can see an even larger list helping the community again here than last year, be it through virtual running, women support groups or charity support groups amongst the many others.
Enjoy the Festival Season, and the ever growing emergence of Fun Runs. Check out the ones our running community of over 50,000 have recommended here. Or, for a definitive list where you can search through the events by distance, location, date and surface click here. And don't forget to come back and consult the Christmas list from the 10th December...
