Following requests from literally around the globe, The 2017 Running Awards are delighted to do launch a new Event category, Best International Event. Nominations and Voting are now open, and of course free, so help us find the best across the world!

Interestingly, it was one of the lesser voted categories in 2016, meaning it was removed to make way for new categories, though following the number of requests and nominations already received that won’t be the case for 2017.

Last year the winning International Event, one of the exceptions with an outstanding amount of support was The Uganda International Marathon. Perhaps this is to be expected with an event that takes place over 7 days on the Equator combining volunteering, a festival and a race with international development. It is set to be the largest fundraiser in Uganda’s history and is starting on 4th June 2017, click through for more details.

It’s no surprise that the marathon taking the Silver award was the ever popular SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon, the Best International Event 2015. Renowned for the fantastic atmosphere and support, this well-run event is taking place in just over a month, 30th October. Although entries are now closed, to join the fantastic support and look into signing up for 2017 click here.

Taking the Bronze award in 2016 was the BMW Berlin Marathon, which in fact took place on Sunday. It was a fantastic marathon and Kenenisa Bekele’s winning time of 2:03:03, just seven seconds off the world record, shows what a fast course this is, definitely one for a PB.
